Ebook About
Are you truly in danger or has your brain simply "tricked" you into thinking you are? In The Worry Trick, psychologist and anxiety expert David Carbonell shows how anxiety hijacks the brain and offers effective techniques to help you break the cycle of worry, once and for all.Anxiety is a powerful force. It makes us question ourselves and our decisions, causes us to worry about the future, and fills our days with dread and emotional turbulence. Based in acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), this book is designed to help you break the cycle of worry.Worry convinces us there's danger, and then tricks us into getting into fight, flight, or freeze mode—even when there is no danger. The techniques in this book, rather than encouraging you to avoid or try to resist anxiety, shows you how to see the trick that underlies your anxious thoughts, and how avoidance can backfire and make anxiety worse. If you’re ready to start observing your anxious feelings with distance and clarity—rather than getting tricked once again—this book will show you how.

Book The Worry Trick: How Your Brain Tricks You into Expecting the Worst and What You Can Do About It Review :

I love this book. The key to ending worry and anxiety suffering is to stop fighting and let those feelings be there. That might sound crazy, but it's true. The book explains how a natural function of the brain is to scout for/imagine danger so that it can be avoided. That's what brains do. Genetics and training (doesn't matter which--so don't obsess about figuring it out) makes some people do this even more than others. The important part is to learn that if one does have a brain so inclined that the more one fights it, the more the brain is going to fight back and the worse the situation will get. One must accept "oh yeah, there's my brain doing its anxiety thing" and then go on with life without trying to make it go away. The paradoxical truth is that then there is the greatest chance that it actually will go away. Nutty but then constant worry is a nutty thing. This book can cure it. You'll still worry, but you'll understand what's happening and not let it ruin your life. Frees up lots of space to live and enjoy, rather than obsessively seek perfect mind control--which cannot happen because of the design of the mind.
First thing I wanna say is that I have had really hard moments with anxiety my whole life and have gone to the ER in the past while I was in College thinking I was having a heart attack but after all the tests I took everything came back negative and I was told what I experienced was a Panic Attack. Like I was saying before I have gone in and out of anxious moments every few years but last year it got so bad when I was about to graduate College that I was literally convinced I was losing my mind because of how many panic attacks I was having along with really strange thoughts and sensations I was not ok with having because I thought only crazy people would have the kinds of thoughts I was having. I saw over 10 mental heath professionals some in the US and some in Europe and they all said the same thing which was what I was experiencing was Anxiety and I was not going crazy or losing control in anyway. I was unable to believe them because I felt they had not understood me or they were missing something I told them. So I would go from one mental health professional to the another because I had to be sure they did not miss something and had to get a second, third, fourth, and so on professional opinion. I kept needing to seek constant reassurance with my Wife, various family members, and my own Mother who is a Medical Doctor and still couldn't accept the mental heath professionals, and my families diagnosis of Anxiety. I spend months spending hours if not most of the day googling my heart away self diagnosing myself with the most scary mental health problems out there and of course creating even more anxiety for myself because of that. I ended up finding this book being advertised somewhere and decided to give it a try because I was basically helpless in trying to solve my problem and close to giving up. It completely described what I had been going though and doing to myself. I laughed a lot because it was just so spot on. The way Dr. Carbonell explains everything is so amazing and accurate. I finally felt that someone understood what I was really going through. The book shows you how anxiety keeps you in a constant spinning hamster wheel and what tools to use to get out of the worry loop. Because of this book, I have been able to completely go off all anxiety medication with my doctors permission. I am so happy for this because I experienced so many bad side effects with medications for anxiety in the past. I am still not perfect and have my hard days but I am 110% better then I have ever been. The tools he gives you truly work. No medical doctor would give me the tools to get out of the worry loop. They would just tell me to take a pill for anxiety and it would go away. But it never fixed the problem it just slowed it down a bit. This book gives you the tools to create an incredible life and I even sent the doctor who wrote this book an email thanking him. He also has a great website. I recommend this book to anyone with anxiety and those who know a family member or friend with anxiety to better understand and help them. I bought this book for my friend who has anxiety and I bought the Audio Book for myself because reading has always been boring for me and it is much easier for me to listen and take in information then to read and take it in. Last thing I wanna say is I am not a doctor so please make sure to talk to your doctor to come up with a plan if you wanna get off your anxiety medication. Please don’t look twice and purchase this book. It will be one of the best decisions you’ll ever make!
